Women As Change Makers is a one-day summit celebrating the women of Reno – Lake Tahoe – Truckee and is designed to provide women with the tools, knowledge, and network to take their business or career to the next level.

This year’s pitch competition featured 5 local, female-owned businesses who delivered a 2-min pitch on their brand followed by 3 minutes of Q & A from the 5 judge panel. Attendees were invited to assist the judges in making the difficult decision by voting online.

The event is planned and hosted by Zawadisha, a South Lake Tahoe-based organization that provides small loans to rural Kenyan women to help finance their livelihoods.

Well, Summerlin, NV to be exact. We are thrilled to announce that West Elm Summerlin is carrying Pantry as part of their LOCAL program. Check out the press release below…

BROOKLYN, N.Y.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–West Elm announced today the opening of its third Nevada store in Downtown Summerlin®, bringing approximately 30 jobs to the master-planned community. The 11,032 square-foot retail location will open on Thursday, October 6 at 10 a.m. As part of West Elm’s LOCAL program, eight Nevada-based makers and designers will sell their products with the store’s holiday assortment of modern furnishings and décor. A complimentary design lab offering West Elm’s Style + Services will support customers in their journey to express their personal style at home. The store also includes Nevada-based artist Zac Bryson of Wildwood Supply Co.’s custom-designed cash wrap that uses salvaged wood geometrically arranged to evoke the area’s desert landscape.

To celebrate the opening, West Elm partnered with Las Vegas-based artist Anna See to design a limited edition tote bag that will be presented to the first 300 shoppers with a $50 minimum purchase on opening day. Additional store opening activities will include a sweepstakes* offering local customers a chance to win a $2,000 gift card and an invitation to a private pre-opening celebration on Wednesday, October 5 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. A portion of the pre-opening celebration proceeds will benefit the Nevada SPCA, a local nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter encouraging people to be the best possible guardians for the animal companions in their care.

  • Haus of Reed: Cement planters and coasters blending traditional technique and modern style.
  • Laxalt & McIver: Modern prints designed by a Reno-based collective that evoke emotion and inspire creativity.
  • Pantry Products: Small-batch soaps that are all-natural and chemical free, blended-by-hand in Reno.
  • SparklePower: Wooden wall art from a husband & wife team in Las Vegas.
  • Tia Flores Calabaza Sculptures: A Reno-based artist whose rich ancestry inspires her sculpture.
  • Urbanwoodworx: Furniture and lighting designed with reclaimed wood in Las Vegas.

The big news this month is the rolling out of Pantry Workshops. Starting October 1st, we’ll be hosting at least one hands-on workshop a month where we’ll educate and guide attendees in the rewarding process of making their own all-natural skin and body care products as well as the benefits found in natural butters, essential oils, herbs and botanicals. Ok, we can’t wait for one paragraph to tell you….Pantry has been selected for West Elm’sLOCAL program. Eek! When our upstairs neighbors open their new Reno location on August 11th, you’ll discover handmade cold process soap from yours truly. We’ve custom-designed 5 varieties of soap just for West Elm (pictured in the header of this email) and will be collaborating on maker + public workshops.
